Zircon Sand (ZrSiO4) is one of the most potential mineral to be beneficiated coming from West and Center Kalimantan, Indonesia. Moreover, zircon sand can be processed to become zirconia (ZrO2) which used in various applications, such as ceramic industry, refractory materials, nuclear tube material, coating industry, industrial catalyst, and other chemical industries. The zirconia product that usually sold as export commodity has 50 – 60% purity. This research aim to increase the yield, purity and modify the structure of zirconia extracted from naturally occurred zircon sand.

The results bring out the ZrO2 with more 85% purity and has cubic structure. Due to its high refractive index and optically clear single crystals, cubic zirconia has gained popularity as a gemstone. Additionally, it keeps its colorless and shine. Furthermore, the dopants used in its manufacturing determine its color and it will make its price high.
